This Tuesday, August 15, Isabel de Saint Malo, head of the electoral observation mission of the Organization of American States (OAS), arrived in Ecuador for the extraordinary elections in that country, the international organization announced in a statement.
For De Saint Malo, former vice president and former foreign minister of Panama, this is the fifth time that she will serve as head of an OAS electoral observation mission, after having previously done so in both the first and second rounds of the Ecuadorian elections ( 2021) and Costa Rica (2022).
For these elections, the OAS mission is made up of 81 experts and observers from more than 20 countries, who will analyze issues related to electoral organization and telematic voting.

more supervision
They will also supervise electoral technology, electoral justice, political financing, the political participation of women and indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples, and political-electoral violence, an issue that has marked this process with the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio.
During their work, the OAS electoral observers will meet with representatives of the Government, electoral authorities, political leaders and candidates, academics and representatives of civil society, and members of the international community to learn about the development of the electoral process in the country.
On election day, scheduled for this Sunday, August 20, the mission will be deployed in 20 provinces of Ecuador to observe the process, from the opening of the polling stations to the transmission of the results.
This is the twenty-fifth electoral observation mission that the OAS has deployed in Ecuador, thanks to the financial contributions of Brazil, Canada, Spain, the United States, France, the Netherlands, Panama, and Peru.
