Saudi Arabia on Wednesday executed an American national convicted of torturing and then killing his Egyptian father, according to the official SPA agency.
A court in the kingdom has found that Bishoy Sharif Naji Naseef beat, tortured and strangled his father before mutilating his body. He also used drugs and attempted to kill another person.
In Washington, where this situation concerning an American citizen was followed, a spokesperson declared to be “aware of the information (about the execution)” and “monitoring” the situation, without having more details. He added that a consulate official last visited the convict in July.
More than 1,000 executions since 2015 according to NGOs
According to NGOs, more than 1,000 people have been sentenced to death since the coming to power of King Salman and his son Mohamed Bin Salman, nicknamed “MBS” and de facto ruler of the kingdom. Saudi Arabia is one of the countries that uses capital punishment the most in the world, usually by beheading.
According to a count based on official information, the petromonarchy has executed 91 people since the beginning of the year. For the whole of 2022, this figure was 147 individuals executed.
