Ford has formalized the request for help from the Perte funds for the Electric and Connected Vehicle (VEC) to electrify the Almussafes plant, as confirmed by the company to Levante-EMV, of the Iberian Press Group. The company has not given details of the request, which is added to the request for another grant from Perte for battery line projects. With this decision we follow the steps of what The president of the works council of Ford Almussafes and leader of UGT-Ford, Carlos Faubel, has already advanced to this newspaperwho had the commitment at the end of June of the direction of the firm of the oval at a European level regarding its presence both in the line of batteries and in those individual projects more linked to the production of electric cars.

Primer Loss

The oval multinational obtained 106 million euros last year in the first Perte VEC to promote the manufacture of electric cars, but resigned because it did not have time to invest all the funds before December 31, 2025, which was one of the aid conditions. The Government of Spain negotiated with Brussels and managed to ensure that the funds from the new Perte can be used until 2028, which opened the door for Ford. The first pure electric from Almussafes would not come out until at least 2027.

battery assembly plant

The money Ford has asked for from the battery line is for a cell assembly plant. Automotive companies are setting up this type of plant next to their factories to save logistics costs. Each vehicle needs between 200 and 400 cells and they are assembled in so-called ‘battery packs’. Seat is going to invest 300 million euros in one of those plants in Barcelona and Hyundai 200 million in another in Navarra. These last two plants will assemble the batteries of the Sagunt gigafactory.
