In the last heartbreaking post before her death, the vivacious young woman had uploaded a bikini-clad photo to Instagram with the caption “free and wild”.

Luis Ángel confirmed the tragic news in a statement.
“Dear friends, family and colleagues from the press, with deep sadness I have to announce the departure of my daughter María Fernanda,” wrote the grieving artist, according to local media.

“It is the greatest pain that one can feel. I appreciate all the messages of support and love I have received. I beg you to understand the deep pain I feel at this time and I appreciate your empathy for respecting my privacy,” she added.
