Mumbai: Kovid has threatened the Ranji Trophy for the second consecutive season. The BCCI has announced the postponement of domestic cricket tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy, due to an increase in Kovid cases in the country, including the new variant Omicron.

The Ranji Trophy season was scheduled to start on January 13. This is after last Ranji season was abandoned due to Kovid.

The Colonel CK Naidu Trophy and the Senior Women’s T20 League have also been postponed. Earlier, the new season of I-League football was postponed due to the expansion of Kovid.

The BCCI said in a statement that the safety of the players was a top priority and that all three tournaments would be postponed until further notice in the wake of Kovid’s re-emergence in the country. New dates will be announced later as the situation improves.
