Adif has provisionally authorized Ouigo to provide service on the Madrid-Elche-Murcia line from 2024, foreseeably, in the first semester.

The definitive permit by Adif is scheduled for next October, since the company trusts that there will be no change since it is a technical procedure.

From now on, Ouigo will begin the homologation tests of the trains, a process that takes time, as the same sources have pointed out.

For now, the date from which the circulation of this service will begin is still uncertain, although it is estimated that it could be for the first half of 2024.

The company has also requested to operate on the Segovia-Valladolid line, although it is awaiting Adif’s decision.

At the end of last May it was learned that Ouigo had notified the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) of its intention to expand its services to Segovia and Valladolid, cities where the routes are included as Public Service Obligation (OSP), in addition to Elche and Murcia.

In a conference on the liberalization of rail passenger transport organized by the CNMC, the head of the company in Spain, Hélène Valenzuela, recalled that they were working to finish deploying their services to Andalusia (it will arrive in Malaga and Seville in 2024).

Regarding the links with Elche and Murcia, Valenzuela asserted that, like the Castilians, they were technically “affordable”, and that he believed that the market was going to “work”.
