In July, car exports from Japan to Russia grew by 84% yoy. About it testify data of trade statistics of the Ministry of Finance of Japan.

In particular, Japan delivered to Russia 84.9% more cars and 60.2% more buses and trucks. At the same time, the export of motorcycles (-30.7%) and spare parts (-44.4%) decreased. In total, Japan delivered 33,192 vehicles to Russia, including 32,116 cars.

The sharp increase in exports occurred against the background of the expansion of anti-Russian sanctions by Japan. Since August 9, Tokyo has banned the import of gasoline and diesel cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters, as well as hybrid cars, into Russia. This decision was made by the Japanese authorities at the end of July after the introduction of the 11th package of EU sanctions against Russia. The restrictions apply to both new and used cars.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Japan introduced several packages of sanctions against Russia. Previously, the export of cars more expensive than 6 million yen (about 3.91 million rubles) was already under restrictions.
