The 2012 Olympic champion, 36, sees a new obstacle standing between him and the Paris Games in 2024.

Pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie, who withdrew from the Budapest World Athletics Championships (August 19-27) 10 days ago, said Thursday that he had to have surgery because of a “partial rupture of the tendonat the level of the hamstrings, less than a year from the Paris Olympics.

«After having passed medical examinations and consulted in particular specialists of the hamstrings, it turns out that I have a partial rupture of the tendon. The decision to end the season was therefore the right one so as not to aggravate the situation and now the next step will be an operation in September (…) in order to reattach the tendon to its base and start again on a healthy basis.“, writes Lavillenie on his social networks. The 2012 Olympic champion, 36, therefore sees a new obstacle standing between him and the Paris Games in 2024.

Before ending his season, the former pole vault world record holder had a difficult summer when he had not done better than 5.61 m in seven competitions. He had not managed to cross a single bar on July 30 at the French Championships in Albi.
