“I am very grateful to this hospital for what they have done for me. Now I can function better without asking for help. I am pleased with my prosthetics,” said recipient Jeisson M.

The orthotics and prosthetics service of the Hospital de Especialidades Guayaquil Dr. Abel Gilbert Pontón of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) delivered and adapted prosthetic devices to a patient who lost one of his arms and one of his legs due to an electric shock .

Designing, manufacturing and providing patients with orthoses and prostheses are some of the objectives of the workshop that this health home has. “Each piece is made and aligned in detail in order to best suit the patient. Jeisson’s prostheses have multiple benefits that will help you resume your daily life,” said Moisés Barrios, a workshop technician.

To be beneficiaries of this service, patients must first be evaluated by a specialist in physiatry or traumatology, who will check if they meet the physical and motor conditions to be beneficiaries of the devices.

So far this year, the Guayaquil Hospital delivered 192 orthoses and 162 prostheses to patients who for one reason or another have lost one of their limbs.

The Ministry of Health provides uninterrupted coverage to vulnerable people, through services that allow them to lead a better quality of life.
