We loved them so much. Maurice, the brave penguin of the ace of the jungle, and his priceless sidekicks, Miguel, the gorilla obsessed with fights and bananas, Gilbert the primate who has a phobia of germs and Batricia, a bat with a platinum blond blow-dry of which Barbie would be jealous. They shone in the animated series which saw them born and which remains one of the most popular in France and the best exported abroad (200 countries, 40 languages), with Miraculous.
The ace. After three seasons, a medium-length film and a feature film, the Aces are back for the sequel too many. Full of going without being of a crazy originality, the sympathetic first film of cinema saw Maurice find his adoptive mother who united with him to save the jungle. This second installment takes them around the world to find the antidote to a toxic foam that once again threatens their living space.
Grumpy Rabbits
The occasion of an epic that we sense punctuated by hectic pursuits, spectacular fights and funny twists. It is not so. On automatic pilot, the film mechanically unfolds its program of bland and unimaginative adventures. Even the interlude in regions evoking the national territory, with its grumbling rabbits, its pétanque players and its smelly cheeses, lacks character.
A shame for this production made in Toulouse by TAT Productions! The Occitan studio has certainly never shone for its screenplays, but it has always been able to show burlesque inventiveness and technical know-how. Even his latest feature film, Pattie and the Wrath of Poseidonwhich was a surprise success this year despite an insufficiently structured narration, was more original than this sad sequel.
You have to wait for the end credits to find the verve of the good old Aces of the jungle. A hilarious short film imagines an alternative version of the story told by the two loser toads, Al and Bob, who give themselves the beautiful role. How to reward the patience of the spectators?
