Storm and controversy over the new book by the former French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, with the emblematic title “Le Temps des Combats” (“The Time of Battles”). It is a “river” work, 592 pages published by Fayard, accompanied by a collection of private and public photographs of the former owner of the Elysée – in office from 2007 to 2012 -, the transalpine media anticipate the hot topics addressed by Sarkozy, also with an exclusive interview with Le Figaro.
The controversy was triggered by the words used by Sarkozy to speak of the war in Ukraine and for some advice addressed to Macron: “It is the duty of the French president to keep the path of dialogue open with Russia. We need the Russians and the Russians need us. Russia is Europe’s neighbor and will remain so”, writes the former head of the Elysée in particular, arousing criticism and controversy. A real media storm that hit France. And Sarkozy’s words were immediately followed up by the Kremlin, with the comment of the vice president of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev: “I have repeatedly stated that the European politicians of the older generation were of a different caliber than those of today – Medvedev said – Sarkozy, who helped resolve the conflict with Georgia in 2008, has not lost his common sense”.
