Drama in the Paris metro. The RATP had reported a “serious passenger accident” on the platforms of line 11 at Châtelet station. One person ultimately died, hit by an oar.
Contacted by Le Parisien, the RATP indicates that a person descended on the tracks, this Friday at 9:40 am, and that she was struck between the Hôtel de Ville and Châtelet stations. The fire brigade and the police were immediately notified and arrived on the scene a few minutes later. The person eventually died.
Traffic interrupted for about five hours
Line 11 was cut between the Châtelet and République stations until 2:20 p.m., when traffic resumed while remaining disrupted on the entire line. The arrival platform at Châtelet was then still not served. Shortly after 3 p.m., the RATP announced that the incident was over and that traffic was resuming on the entire line.
An investigation is underway to shed light on the circumstances of the accident. The RATP announces that it is expressing its emotion following this incident.
