As every time their regime is the subject of – rare – criticism, Chechen officials close ranks. This time it is a question of defending Adam, 15 years old, son of Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of this territory of the Russian Federation with a Muslim majority. The boy “demonstrated patriotism and determination to defend religion”writes in particular on Telegram, Thursday August 17, the federal deputy Adam Delimkhanov.
The facts: According to Nikita Jouravliev, remanded in Chechen prisons since he burned a Koran in the spring, Adam Kadyrov was specially sent to his cell to beat him. The 19-year-old victim told the story in a letter to the rights defender in Moscow.
His counterpart for the Republic of Chechnya, for his part, contented himself with replying that the rights of prisoners were respected on the territory. The same, after the violent attack suffered by the journalist Elena Milachina, on July 4, had evoked “a provocation and a set-up against the Chechen people”.
“A true patriot”
Rather than denials, the other officials chose to outbid. “We not only understand it, we warmly support it, writes the Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, Magomed Daoudov. He acted like a real Muslim, a real patriot and a real Chechen. » Moreover, to those who doubt, Adam Delimkhanov recalls: “Adam Ramzanovitch has distinguished himself since childhood with a strong sense of justice and is an excellent example for his peers. From an early age, he memorized the Holy Quran. »
This deputy, known for having taken out a golden pistol in the precincts of the Duma and for commanding the Chechen forces in Ukraine, is also the uncle of the young Adam Kadyrov. According to a count dating back to 2018, a third of Chechen’s 158 top officials are members of the president’s family.
Ramzan Kadyrov himself takes great care of his children. Among his daughters, two are ministers (three months after his appointment to the Ministry of Health, Khoutmat, 20, was already decorated for “his immense contribution to the development of medicine”). Adam and two other brothers were briefly sent to Ukraine, where “they behaved as befits Chechen warriors”according to their father.

Regarding violence in prison, Ramzan Kadyrov, who himself succeeded his father, has been accused on numerous occasions of having tortured imprisoned opponents with his own hands. Investigations by the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta also mentioned extrajudicial executions carried out in Chechen prisons.
