UN Human Rights, UNDP and UNFPA in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication are organizing capacity building workshops for journalists in the regions of Labé and Kindia from August 07 to 11, 2023.

Labé and Kindia From August 07 to 11, 2023, seventy-five (75) journalists from public and private media in the regions of Labé, Kindia and Conakry will take part in this capacity building session on the principles of ethics, professional conduct and of human rights for fair and objective media coverage of the trial of the events of September 28, 2009.

These sessions, which follow those already held in June 2023 in Nzérékoré and Kankan, will take place respectively on August 7 and 8 in Labé for journalists from Labé and Mamou, then from August 10 and 11, 2023 in Kindia for journalists. from Kindia and Conakry. They will see the participation of the High Authority for Communication, the Communication Unit of the September 28 trial management unit, and the local authorities of Labé, Kindia and Conakry.

These activities are part of the implementation of the “Joint project to support the strengthening of social cohesion and national reconciliation in Guinea”, implemented by UN Human Rights Guinea, UNDP and UNFPA, with technical and financial support from the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (BPF). More generally, they aim to strengthen the role of journalists in the circulation of information, in the fight against hate speech, in promoting the fight against impunity, social cohesion for an inclusive national reconciliation process in Guinea.

UN Human Rights through this session, intends to implement its mandate to support the promotion and protection of human rights, particularly to strengthen the fight against impunity, to help restore confidence between all stakeholders and all the social bodies constituted in the field of national cohesion and the process of national reconciliation.

In general, it is for UN Human Rights to help Guinea settle all the historical liabilities relating to serious human rights violations and contribute to strengthening the rule of law. , the consolidation of peace and peaceful coexistence between the peoples and populations of Guinea.
