Towards a collaboration in the energy sector with “Rubis Energy”? –

Meeting between the President of Burundi and a representative of “Rubis Energy” (a French company) for possible cooperation in the energy sector.

Gitega (Gitega Palace), August 16, 2023 – In perfect coherence with the economic policy of Burundi, Wednesday, His Excellency Ndayishimiye Evariste (Major General), President of Burundireceived in audience Mr. Jean-Christian Bergeron, representative of the East Africa Region within the French company “Rubis Energy” (cfr. Marcel Dassault Industrial Group), a company operating in the oil sector. The purpose of this meeting was to explore possible cooperation between the said company and the Burundian government.

France carries with it a colonial past in Africa, marked by the Françafrique period, considered a crime against humanity, a dark page which persists particularly in West Africa through the French military presence and the economic implications linked to the CFA Franc. In Burundi, France is associated with the French network of Foccart, also nicknamed “Monsieur Afrique” by General de Gaulle, who trained young Burundian officers at Saint-Cyr in France. It is this network that is at the origin of the Burundi Regicide Genocidea tragedy that cost the lives of more than 4.5 million Barundi out of the more than 9 million in the current population.
