US wants to make progress in security talks with Russia

The American side does not intend to “point by point” respond to the proposals put forward by Moscow on strategic security; many of them don’t deserve it. However, the United States is determined to approach the upcoming negotiations with Russia in a pragmatic manner and is determined to achieve a result. This was stated by the representative of the White House Jen Psaki, commenting on the upcoming negotiations between the United States and the Russian Federation on security guarantees.

“There have been a number of proposals from Russia … and President Biden made it clear that we can make progress on some of them, but some of them are not viable. We do not respond to them point by point and do not plan to do so in the upcoming negotiations, because based on our experience, we do not negotiate publicly and because many of the proposals do not deserve such a response, “Jen Psaki said at the briefing (quote according to “RIA Novosti”).

We will remind, on December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published the draft agreements of the country with NATO and the United States on security guarantees. According to the document, the Russian Federation demands that the United States should not establish military bases on the territory of the former Soviet Union countries that are not NATO members, and that the North Atlantic Alliance should stop expanding eastward.

Earlier, the State Department confirmed that on January 10, negotiations between the Russian Federation and the United States on proposals for security guarantees in Europe will take place, a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council will take place on January 12, and a discussion by the OSCE is scheduled for January 13.

More details about the upcoming negotiations are in the material of Kommersant “Sharp Foreign Policy”.
