Mikhail Yakovlevich is one of the initiators and scientific directors of long-term Soviet programs for the exploration of the Moon, Venus and Mars. In a conversation with an MK correspondent, he said that he was very worried about the failure with the lunar apparatus.
Mikhail Marov, who celebrated his 90th birthday on July 28, was very hopeful that the new, first in Russia mission to the moon, which was supposed to pave the bridge between the Soviet and Russian lunar programs, would be successful.
“It is sad that we failed to land the device. For me, this was perhaps the last hope to see the revival of our lunar program,” the scientist said.
According to the scientist, now it is very important to discuss the causes of what happened, in no case keeping silent about them, taking into account the experience of previous years.
