DIG/ Four months after its suspension, the government, through the Minister Delegate for Transport, Éric-Joël Bekale, announced on Wednesday August 16, 2023 the official resumption of passenger trains.
“The government believes that passenger traffic can resume. However, it was recommended that Setrag (note: Société d’exploitation du Transgabonais) and ARTF (note: Regulatory Authority for Rail Transport) take all necessary and useful measures that will guarantee the best possible safety for passengers. during their travels, indicated Éric-Joël Békalé.
This decision to resume passenger train traffic was motivated, according to the member of the government, by the positive conclusions of the inspection mission carried out from August 2 to 5, on the quality of the work carried out by Setrag.
“At the end of this mission, a report was made to the Prime Minister.
After reading the said report and the opinion of all the experts, the work carried out on the railway line was deemed satisfactory. The various areas in question have been rehabilitated and secured,” he specified.
In accordance with a new circulation program, Setrag announces that the train ticket sales counters are now open in all stations.
