JAKARTA – This is an inspirational story from Jennie Nabilah. Even though he was an orphan since he was young and almost dropped out of school, now he can study in the United States for one semester with the MOSMA scholarship.

Jennie Nabilah, who is familiarly called Jennie, did not expect that her father would leave her forever when she was in 5th grade. The backbone of the family had died and rocked the family’s economy.

Threatened Cannot Continue to Middle School

The economic condition of his family at that time was not good. After elementary school, Jennie was threatened with not being able to continue her education to junior high school (SMP).

“Graduating from elementary school in 2016, I almost couldn’t continue my education to junior high school because of financial reasons. At that time I almost dropped out of school,” said Jennie, quoted from the Ministry of Religion’s website, Sunday (20/8/2023).

Jennie also felt sad because going to school was a happy time for her. Even when she was not old enough, Jennie insisted on asking her parents to go to school.

“I often feel motivated and always want to discover and learn new things. But like roads in general, there must be some potholes that must be passed,” he said.

Help Comes Unexpectedly

Problems occurred when his father died and his family’s economic conditions prevented him from meeting his teachers and friends at school again.

But in the midst of these difficulties, suddenly a neighbor who works as a tutoring teacher came to the house and brought good news.

“He told me that someone would help pay my school fees to college. What is this? Something that previously felt impossible to achieve, but as if “Surprise!”, I believe that every good intention will have a way,” he recalled with tears in his eyes.

The help came and Jennie understood that the help had to be guarded by her as a mandate that had to be carried out properly and seriously.

Build a Competitive Spirit in the Midst of Limitations

Each stage of education then lived seriously. Jennie tries to foster a competitive spirit, even in the midst of limited facilities. For example, when you are going to take part in the Olympics, let alone take lessons, you even have to borrow and photocopy books for practice questions.

“In the past, I still felt pessimistic when I saw colleagues who could go to private tutoring for the Olympics. However, I believe the most important thing is not to limit your own persistence, don’t limit your belief in your own abilities, because actually that concept is expensive to work on,” he said.
