Emmy Award-Winning Actor Ron Cephas Jones Passes Away at 66
Ron Cephas Jones, the esteemed actor who won two Emmy Awards for his outstanding performance on the hit television drama “This Is Us,” has sadly passed away at the age of 66. The news of his death was confirmed by his manager, Dan Spilo.
Jones gained recognition for his portrayal of William Hill, a bisexual recovering drug addict with terminal cancer, in “This Is Us.” He received four consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series from 2017 to 2020 and won the award in 2018 and 2020.
Aside from his notable role on “This Is Us,” Jones appeared in several other TV shows such as “Mr. Robot,” “The Get Down,” and “Luke Cage.” He also showcased his talent in movies like “Half Nelson,” “Across the Universe,” “Dog Days,” and “Dolemite Is My Name.” In addition, Jones had a successful career as a stage actor on and off Broadway, earning a Tony Award nomination in 2022 for his role in the play “Clyde’s.”
As a father, Jones made history alongside his daughter, Jasmine Cephas Jones, when they both won Emmys in the same year. Jasmine won for her performance in the Quibi series “#FreeRayshawn” in 2020. Ron expressed his pride and joy in an interview, stating, “To see my daughter become healthy and happy, that’s a parent’s dream.”
Jones faced health challenges in recent years, enduring chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He underwent a double-lung transplant in May 2020 and had to relearn basic functions such as breathing, eating, and walking. Despite the difficulties, he remained determined and persevered.
