Employment growth is stalling in France, as are recruitment difficulties, even if they remain very high, a sign of a soft landing in the labor market after the post-Covid frenzy. This is what emerges from the still provisional estimate of the job vacancy rate in the second quarter, published this Friday by the statistics department of the Ministry of Labor, Dares.

Specifically, in private companies with more than ten employees

in France excluding Mayotte, the rate fell by 0.1 point, to 2.24%, compared to the first quarter, itself down from the peak at the end of 2022 (2.48%). This represents 355,603 jobs in all (-4%), compared to just over 390,000 at the peak. The number of vacant jobs is falling in all the major sectors, underlined the Dares: -7% in the non-market tertiary sector, -5% in construction, -4% in industry and -3% in the market tertiary sector.
