Abandoned in the 1940s, the small town of Bodie (California, United States) remained frozen as in the days of the Wild West. The place seems to come straight out of a Lucky Luke album. Reporting.
We often forget it, but the legend of the Far West was also written at altitude, in the mountains. At almost 3,000 meters, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, rests in silence the most incredible of American ghost towns: Bodie. It is now a protected California State Park. A Quebec family discovers abandoned houses here with, however, the impression that the inhabitants have only recently left.
A unique atmosphere
French tourists, too, have made the long detour to come and feel this unique atmosphere. Abandoned in the 1940s, the small town has remained frozen like in the days of the Far West with the bank, of which only the safe, the Chinese laundromat, the general store and the school remain. The place seems to come straight out of a Lucky Luke album. The city was even nicknamed “the ravine of crap shots”.
