Brewers Sweep Rangers in Impressive Road Trip

ARLINGTON — The Milwaukee Brewers showcased their dominance during their weekend road trip to Texas, sweeping a three-game series against the American League West-leading Texas Rangers.

Pitcher Adrian Houser played a pivotal role in the Brewers’ success, tossing five innings of one-run ball and striking out seven batters. This performance earned him his fifth victory of the season and helped set the Brewers up for the wins.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell praised Houser’s ability to navigate through the Rangers’ lineup, which is known for its strong left-handed hitters. Counsell noted that Houser’s fifth-inning performance, in particular, was impressive and crucial to minimizing the Rangers’ offensive power.

Following their victory on Sunday, the Brewers have now won three consecutive games and hold a three-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central division. This series win is the second winning streak of at least three games for the Brewers this month, showing their consistent strong performance.

Counsell expressed satisfaction with their current form, stating, “We’re playing good baseball. In a long baseball season, you have ups and downs, but this was a good series.” He also highlighted the upcoming tough challenge the team will face after their well-deserved day off.

Although the Brewers didn’t replicate their hitting spree from the first two games of the series, where they collected 14 and 15 hits respectively, their offense did enough to support Houser and secure the sweep. The team’s plate discipline stood out against Max Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, drawing four walks and scoring three runs against him. Scherzer was forced out of the game in the fourth inning due to his high pitch count.

Notably, the Brewers had a successful third inning, with three of the four walks against Scherzer occurring during this frame. These walks, combined with an errant pitch that clipped Willy Adames on the helmet, resulted in the Brewers scoring their first two runs of the day. Christian Yelich also contributed with an RBI double in the fourth inning, ultimately driving Scherzer out of the game.

In the eighth inning, the Brewers extended their lead by adding three insurance runs against lefty reliever Will Smith, solidifying their 6-1 lead. Outfielder Tyrone Taylor played a major role in this inning, hitting his first triple of the season to drive in two runs.

Overall, the Brewers displayed their strong team dynamics and showcased their depth as a team. With their recent victories, they continue to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the National League.
