The co-founder of the American software giant Adobe, John Warnock, has died at the age of 82 this past Saturday, as announced by the company in a statement.

Before founding Adobe in 1982 with Charles GeschkeWarnock served as head of the scientific department at Xerox in Palo Alto, California, and before that at IBM and the University of Utah.

“His vision and passion enabled Adobe to deliver groundbreaking innovations like Illustrator, the ubiquitous PDF file format, and Acrobat, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, which defined the desktop era and unleashed creativity and opportunity for millions of people“, the company says in its condolences statement.

Warnock received the prestigious MPresident Barack Obama’s National Medal of Technology and Innovation; the Computer Entrepreneur Award from the IEEE Computer Society; the Medal of Achievement from the American Electronics Association; and the Marconi Prize for contributions to information and communication sciences.
