Earlier, the Telegram channel KazTAG wrote that the authorities of Almaty in the morning of January 6 are planning to carry out a large-scale cleanup of the city from looters and instigators of mass riots. Presumably, it was about a large-scale operation by law enforcement agencies with the involvement of the army.

Throughout the night, riots did not subside in the city. Thus, radical protesters armed themselves and began to loot, destroying shops, pharmacies and banks.

Eyewitnesses also reported armed clashes in Alma-Ata between the military and protesters.

On January 5, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan reported that at least eight police officers and military personnel of the National Guard were killed in clashes with demonstrators, another 317 were injured during the riots.

At the same time, the Alma-Ata authorities clarified that in total during the riots on Wednesday, about 500 people were beaten, including 130 women and old people. 120 vehicles were burned, including 33 ambulances and fire trucks.
