Three activists from the group Animal Rising were charged on Monday in the United Kingdom, according to the police. Last May, they stole three lambs from the Sandringham estate, owned by King Charles III in Norfolk.

The three women have been charged with “multiple theft and animal welfare offences”, Norfolk Police said in a statement. Aged 23 to 34, the activists have been released on bail and will appear in court on September 28.

Denounce livestock farming in the country

The facts for which they were charged date back to May 24, 2023. A video showing three women walking in a field and stealing three lambs had been posted on social networks. The group Animal Rising had claimed responsibility for the theft, intended to denounce the raising of animals for food purposes.

The Sandringham estate, several thousand hectares of forests, crops and gardens, has belonged to the royal family for several generations and Charles III inherited it on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
