The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued an orange alert for snowfall for the mountainous area of ​​Mendoza and Neuquén and another yellow level for winds for a large part of the province of Buenos Aires, CABA, Neuquén and Mendoza; while in San Juan and La Rioja it is by Zonda wind. According to the agency’s daily report, the orange alert for snowfall will affect the area of ​​the Malargüe and San Rafael mountain ranges, in Mendoza; and the Aluminé, Chos Malal, Loncopué, Minas, Picunches and Ñorquín mountain ranges, in Neuquén.

“The area will be affected by heavy rains. Accumulated precipitation values ​​between 50 and 75 millimeters (mm) are expected, and may be exceeded in a timely manner. The highest accumulations are expected in the highest areas where, in addition, precipitation could be in the form of mixed rain and snow,” the SMN said.

Regarding the yellow alert for winds, it is planned for the entire City of Buenos Aires; for the center, the southeast and the northwest, Greater Buenos Aires and the coastal zone of the province of Buenos Aires; the south of Mendoza and a large part of the territory of Neuquén.

“The area will be affected by winds from the west and southwest with speeds between 35 and 55 km/h, with gusts that can reach 85 km/h. The highest speeds are expected for the Río de la Plata and the Buenos Aires coastal area.” ‘, the organization specified.

“The area will be affected by the Zonda wind, with speeds between 40 and 65 km/h and gusts that can exceed 85 km/h,” they said from the SMN. Due to these weather phenomena, the national body recommends avoiding outdoor activities, securing items that can be easily blown up, keeping informed by the authorities and pending weather information, and always having an emergency backpack ready with a flashlight, radio, documents and phone.
