After long weeks of preparation and seven friendly matches played (six victories), the French basketball team will begin its Basketball World Cup this Friday. Contested in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, this World Cup brought together 32 teams. France were placed in Group H, alongside Canada, Latvia and Lebanon. The main threat will come from the Canadians, who can count on several NBA players in their workforce like Jamal Murray or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

It is with this big piece that France will begin. The first match is scheduled in Jakarta this Friday (3:30 p.m.) with, already, the first place of the group as a major challenge. The French will then face Latvia this Sunday August 27 (3:30 p.m.) then Lebanon on Tuesday August 29 (11:45 a.m.). At the end of this first group phase, the first two nations of each pool will compete in a second group before qualifying for the quarter-finals.

The three matches of the Blues of the first and that of the second round will be to follow on beIN Sports 1, broadcaster of the entire competition. For a joint broadcast on France Télévisions, it will be necessary to wait for a qualification of the French team for the quarter-finals (September 5 or 6). The halves are scheduled for September 8 (10:45 a.m. and 2:40 p.m.) and the final will take place on September 10 (2:40 p.m.).

A successful preparation

For this World Cup, Vincent Collet, coach of the Blues, can count on an almost complete team. Only Victor Wembanyama declined selection to prepare for his first season in the NBA after being drafted first overall by the San Antonio Spurs last June. Frank Ntilikina was injured during the preparation. He was replaced by Isaïa Cordinier.

The friendly matches were successful for the France team. Captain Nicolas Batum’s teammates first beat Tunisia, Montenegro and Venezuela before dominating Lithuania twice. After flying to the venue of the competition, they finished their preparation with a victory against Japan and a narrow defeat against Australia, after having dominated the majority of the meeting. Evan Fournier, Nando de Colo and Rudy Gobert have already been able to prove that they are in good shape and that they would be an asset for the Blues, who are aiming for another world medal after winning bronze in China four years ago.
