The United States plans to provide $500,000 to the UNDP Basket Fund for the organization of the next elections in the country. US Ambassador Claire A. Pierangelo announced this yesterday at the CENI headquarters in Alarobia.

Beyond this participation in the Basket Fund, the United States intends to continue its support for voter education and outreach. They plan to provide an additional $400,000 to support civic education activities in the country.

In 2022, the US government has already granted $1.3 million to promote free and fair elections through the “Ndao Hifidy” project, implemented by the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA). This 18-month project provides the public with a better understanding of democratic principles, voting rights and responsibilities, and increases citizens’ knowledge of electoral procedures. USAID’s five-year RINDRA project, launched in 2022 and implemented by UNDP, to strengthen governance, justice, and civic engagement in Madagascar as part of its total funding of $14 million.
