On X, formerly Twitter, many Internet users have been ironic in recent days about the recruitment of the Saudi club which allegedly got the wrong “Jota”. If for “Diogo”, scorer this weekend with Liverpool against Bournemouth, everything seems to be going well, the situation is more complicated for his namesake in Saudi Arabia. Recruited this summer by Al-Ittihad, like Benzema, Kanté and Fabinho, the 24-year-old winger has not been able to show himself to his advantage since his signing. Worse still, the Saudi club would even consider, according to local media, parting with the former Celtic Glasgow bought for 30 million euros a few weeks ago.

The reason ? On-field performance leaves something to be desired. In six games in all competitions, Jota have scored no goals and provided no assists. However, over the same period, his team shines (five wins) and his teammates, since the European championships, seem to adapt well to their new team. Evidenced by the performance of Karim Benzema, already author of three goals and two assists in as many games as his Portuguese teammate.

A loan to Al-Shabab?

His adaptation within the club, too, would not have gone in the best of ways. Moreover, Jota holds an international player spot. They are expensive in the squads of Saudi clubs since the regulations of the Saudi Pro League limit the number of non-EU players to eight in each squad. In fact, granting it to a player of greater caliber could interest the Saudi club which would be in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah, according to several Saudi media.

So many arguments against Jota, which suggest that a departure before the end of this transfer window cannot be ruled out. His name is already circulating on the side of Al-Shabab, another formation of the Saudi championship, for a loan according to local media.
