To safeguard the road user safetythe DGT operation during Operation Return has the total availability of human resources – agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, civil servants of the Traffic Management Centers and personnel in charge of equipment maintenance and installation road measurements–, and technicians.

The latter are summarized in 780 fixed speed control radars, of which 92 are section, 545 mobile radars that can be embarked on ATGC vehicles, 12 helicopters and 39 drones, 23 of them with reporting capacity, in addition of 245 cameras and 15 camouflaged vans to control the use of mobile phones and seat belts. The DGT has also unmarked vehicles and motorcycles that will circulate on all kinds of roads in order to monitor any infringement.

Specifically, the first, the fixed ones, are a type of radar that works continuously and is found in specific locations, being duly signposted to inform drivers of their presence and remind them of the need to respect speed limits. Precisely for this reason, many drivers slow down just before the section where the radar is located to avoid a speeding fine, and then speed up again. A “trick” that no longer works.

The DGT has established the so-called double, cascading or anti-braking radars. His method is very simple as well as effective, since it consists of placing a mobile radar after a fixed one. In this way, the driver who slows down when passing through a fixed radar and, immediately afterwards, speeds up again, will be caught and fined.

And although braking before a radar is not a reason for a sanction according to the Highway Code, there is a section entitled “Reduction of speed and distance between vehicles” which states that, “except in case of imminent danger, all drivers, for considerably reduce the speed of your vehicle, you must make sure that you can do it without risk to other drivers and you will be obliged to warn it in advance, without being able to do it abruptly, so that you do not create a risk of collision with the vehicles that circulate behind yours. .

Therefore, if an agent believes that a driver has braked abruptly or that his vehicle does not leave enough space with others, he could apply the sanctions corresponding to a serious infraction. That is, a penalty of 200 euros and the withdrawal of four points on the card. In addition, if the infraction reaches the consideration of reckless driving, the sanction would amount to 500 euros and the loss of six points.
