A fire broke out in the early hours of this morning in an apartment building in the Philadelphia area of ​​the US state of Pennsylvania. Firefighters rushed to the scene at 6.40am and put out the blaze. The fire on the second floor of the three-story apartment building was contained after a 50-minute struggle.

Eight people were able to escape the building through one of the two exits, and 13 people, including seven children, were burned to death, Philadelphia fire officials said.

Authorities said two of the burn victims were taken to hospitals and 26 were staying there. They also said the fire alarm equipment in the apartment was not working. Fire officials did not release the names and ages of those killed in the blaze.
