His manager Danilo Mancuso gave the news. Salvatore Cutugno was born in Fosdinovo, in the province of Massa-Carrara on July 7, 1943. His musical career began in the first half of the 60s, when he took part in various bands. In 1974 he founded the Albatros and in 1976 he participated with them in the Festival of San Remo. In the same year he began his solo career but the real boom came a few years later. In 1980 he triumphed at the Sanremo Festival with the song ‘Solo noi’ and in 1983 he achieved global success with the song ‘L’italiano’. Cutugno sold over 100 million copies and the piece was recorded and translated into various languages. The rise continues in the 90s with the victory at the Eurovision Song Contest. In Zagreb he wins with the song ‘Together: 1992’, thus becoming the second Italian to triumph at the Festival. Before him, Gigliola Cinquetti (1964) and later iMåneskin (2021) were awarded.
