Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: Anticipation prevails over a possible reluctance to participate in the provincial elections.

Electoral abstention means abstaining from voting in the election.

Former MP Hassan Fadaam said that many are calling for a change in the state of the country, and it was agreed that the situation needs fraternal men and women to change, but when the elections come, no one goes out to vote, but sits in their homes.. As for the followers of the corrupt, they elect the corrupt.

In a second tweet, Fadam said that despite the government’s knowledge of the corruption of some governors and officials, they are still exercising their jobs and the government is waiting for elections to change them, indicating that they will buy votes to stay and continue in their positions.

Muhammad Hisham, who is interested in political affairs, asks: Will the people’s reluctance to participate in the elections continue, or is it different this time, with the start of the local elections journey?

The head of the National Awareness Movement, Salah al-Arabawi, explained that the Sadrist movement, the Euphrates, the extension, al-Wefaq, and awareness announced that they would not participate in the upcoming elections due to the absence of legitimate competition, and because the opponent is the arbiter, considering that the potential real participation rate will not exceed 10%.

The reasons for the reluctance of voters to participate in the elections in Iraq depend on the feeling of mistrust. If the voters believe that the elections are unfair or that the results are predetermined, they may lose confidence in the democratic process and decide not to participate.

Iraq needs awareness of the importance of elections and how to participate in them, as many voters lack sufficient knowledge about how to vote and choose candidates.

Activist Faleh Hassan said on the X website that after the Commission’s decision for the third time to extend the period for updating voter data, this indicates that the Iraqi voter does not want to vote on members of the provincial councils.

Representative Muhammad Othman Al-Khalidi expected that the participation rate in the provincial council elections would not reach 20 percent.

And the date for the local elections will be on 12/18/2023, which is the first local provincial council elections to take place in Iraq since April 2013.
