Wednesday August 23, Emmanuel Macron made his political comeback and set a new course for the school. In an interview with the magazine “Le Point”, the Head of State shared his desire to bring forward the start of the school year to August 20 for certain students.

Too many vacations and too busy days. Reducing leave is an old debate, brought up to date by Emmanuel Macron. On the parents’ side, opinions are divided. “I think it’s not necessarily a good solution, it makes the economy work a lot”, judges a mother. A father believes that “Holidays are way too long” and encourages the establishment “extra-curricular activities during the day”.

A resumption of classes from August 20

The Head of State also wants to regain the month of June for students who do not take tests at the end of the year. Another announcement: the students most in difficulty could return on August 20, to catch up. Free refresher courses already exist in some establishments, but this remains insufficient for the main teachers’ union, the SNES-FSU. With eight weeks of summer holidays, France remains behind Finland, Italy or Ireland, which offer 10 to 12 weeks of rest for children.
