Adult Swim Announces the Return of “Rick and Morty” for Season 7

Adult Swim has officially announced the return of its popular animated series “Rick and Morty” for its seventh season. The network promises that the upcoming episodes will “raise the bar” following the departure of co-creator Justin Roiland.

The Emmy-winning sci-fi comedy will be back on Sunday, October 15 at 11 p.m. The new season, like previous ones, will consist of 10 episodes.

Michael Ouweleen, the president of Adult Swim, confirmed the news by stating, “Thanks to the talent of the entire show team, we can all enjoy 10 new episodes that yet again raise the bar for comedy and animation. This season proves that the geniuses at work on ‘Rick and Morty’ are just getting started.”

The announcement comes after Roiland’s exit from the show earlier this year. Roiland was removed from the series and lost his overall deal after being charged with felony domestic abuse in Orange County, California. In addition to the charges, allegations of abusive behavior towards fans and workplace issues were also brought to light. However, the criminal charges against Roiland were dropped in March.

Adult Swim is currently searching for new voice actors to replace Roiland, but has assured fans that the characters of Rick and Morty will remain unchanged. No new cast members have been announced yet, although it has been revealed that Dan Stevens will lead another Roiland animated series, “Solar Opposites,” on Hulu.

An official description for season 7 teases what fans can expect, including references to the recasting: “Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever! It’s season seven, and the possibilities are endless: what’s up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to high school?! Maybe not! But let’s find out! There’s probably less piss than last season. Rick and Morty, 100 years! Or at least until season 10!”

Adult Swim proudly states that “Rick and Morty” has been the top comedy on cable during seasons three, four, five, and six. The series attracted over 19 million viewers on linear broadcast in 2022 and continues to be a top performer on the streaming service Max. “Rick and Morty” has also won two Emmy Awards for outstanding animated program and is currently nominated for a third.

Fans can’t wait to dive back into the wild and imaginative world of “Rick and Morty” when season 7 premieres in October.
