Växjö, Sweden – Ida Andersson, a devastated mother, has called for stricter rules and regulations following the tragic death of her 14-year-old son, Melker, in a tractor accident. Melker, who would have turned 15 last week, was driving an a-tractor when he lost control, collided with two trees, and tragically lost his life.

Ida Andersson spoke out about her family’s heart-wrenching experience, saying, “We are going through hell on earth.” The grieving mother shared the pain of celebrating Melker’s 15th birthday without him and expressed her frustration with the lack of regulations surrounding a-tractors.

“He loved everything called a-tractors, it was his big dream to start driving it. He rebuilt it four times all by himself,” lamented Ida.

The family has been struggling to come to terms with the loss of their eldest son, while also facing criticism for allowing him to drive the tractor, despite not being of legal driving age. Ida defended her actions, acknowledging that it is impossible to keep teenagers locked up and constantly under supervision.

In response to the increasing number of accidents involving tractors, the Swedish Transport Administration has recently tightened rules for these vehicles. These measures include requirements for seat belts and the manipulation of vehicles to restrict speeds to a maximum of 30 kilometers per hour. However, Ida believes more needs to be done to prevent unnecessary accidents.

Ida firmly stated, “All these damn a-tractors that are manipulated. It’s too easy to make them go at these insane speeds, make it impossible. The state must change something.”

Melker’s tragic accident has left a lasting impact on the community. A memorial service was held, which saw over a hundred participants, including family, friends, classmates, and teachers, come to pay their respects. The accident site has been unofficially named “Melker’s Curve,” and a sign has been erected, adorned with flowers, candles, and messages of remembrance.

Ida described Melker as a happy and resourceful teenager who loved cars and machines. Her grief is palpable, as she expressed, “He is so incredibly missed. I think that life is so very fragile, and that you should always try to live to 200 percent.”

As Ida continues to mourn the loss of her son, she hopes that by sharing her family’s tragic story, more awareness will be brought to the urgent need for stricter regulations surrounding a-tractors to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
