Mishandling of Evidence Alleged in Maui Wildfire Investigation

Hawaii power utility, Hawaiian Electric, has come under scrutiny after it removed damaged power poles and other equipment from the scene of the deadly Lahaina fire. The removal of this equipment could potentially affect the investigation into the cause of the fire, according to court documents obtained by The Washington Post. The utility is facing at least eight lawsuits for its alleged role in sparking the Maui wildfires. Hawaiian Electric has stated that it is cooperating with federal investigators and has carefully documented and stored the removed equipment. However, experts have raised concerns that by moving the equipment, crucial evidence may have been lost.
