During the summer period, boredom sometimes overtakes those who cannot go on vacation for financial reasons. So, to bring joy to these families, municipalities offer free activities.
A dive at the foot of the towers. At the heart of a public housing estate in Pantin (Seine-Saint-Denis), as every summer, the inhabitants enjoy a 1,500 m2 ecological swimming pool. “It’s good, it’s refreshing”, says a young boy. A girl ensures that she “loves swimming too much”. For families who have not gone on vacation, this artificial lagoon is a breather. “That change ideas. It’s fun for the kids.”, says a mother. It is the town hall that has invested 17 million euros in this basin. The objective: to offer free leisure to the entire population.
Free activities in Gironde
It’s not just in town that summer seems long when you’re not going on vacation. In the small rural town of Pessac-sur-Dordogne (Gironde), families enjoy an introduction to canoeing. “It’s not every day that we go canoeing”, rejoices a teenager. Several times a week, 31 towns in Gironde benefit from these activities. Cost for the department: 330,000 euros. On the other hand, for families, everything is free. According to a recent study, 46% of French people do not go on vacation, mainly for financial reasons.
