The feelings seem correct for the moment for Kevin Mayer at the World Championships in Budapest. Affected in the Achilles tendon for fifteen days, the Frenchman decided to take the start of the decathlon this Friday morning, with a correct result on the initial 100 meters.

Aligned in the first series, the decathlete took second place behind the Estonian Johannes Erm, with a time of 10’79. Although far from his personal best (10′’50), this time is nevertheless reassuring for Kevin Mayer, who did not seem to be bothered by his tendon.

The Frenchman, who had achieved 10’62 a year ago in Eugene during his world title, did not speak after this first test. At the end of his 100 meters, he went to his rest room to take a breather before continuing with the long jump. The Canadian Damian Warner, reigning Olympic champion, achieved the best time in 10′’32.

Two other events are on the program this Friday morning. After this 100 meters, Kevin Mayer will participate in the long jump and the shot put, before the high jump and the 400 meters this Friday evening. It was during specific training for this last event that he was injured during his preparation. The height will be a real test for him.

The other five events (110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, 1500m) will take place on Saturday.
