The Popular Liberation Movement (MPL) condemns the seizure of power by force and calls for collective and responsible action by all to put an end to the spiral of coup d’etat. It is through a press release signed by President Experience Tébé, on Wednesday August 24, that the political formation spoke out on the coups d’etat in West Africa. She talks about the reasons and makes suggestions.

What is it about : Over the past four years, several military coups have been recorded in the sub-region already threatened by security problems linked to terrorism and major economic challenges. The putschists seem to evoke common reasons. However, according to the MPL, several other reasons remain unexplained for these overthrows of the regime are often accompanied by demonstrations of popular jubilation, orchestrated by African youth with anti-imperialist sentiments. The MPL condemns the putsches in their entirety, whatever the advanced motives and invites the African armed forces to militate only for the consolidation of peace and security on the continent. Contrary to ECOWAS and the leaders of its member countries who have so far described the Nigerien case as an “attempted coup”, Experience Tébé thinks that the putsch is recorded with the appointment of a prime minister and the composition of a transitional government.

Recommendations to ECOWAS and the AU : The MPL, among other things, suggests that in a participatory diplomatic approach, the situation in Niger should be resolved exclusively by ECOWAS and the AU, which must act with moderation in the interest of the peoples. “That the leaders clarify to the African peoples the contents of the agreements and France-Africa relations; that the Heads of State put an end to institutional coups, cease to assume all powers and ensure the proper functioning of the institutions of the Republic; that freedoms and good governance be guaranteed by those who govern,” Experience Tébé suggested. For him, the time has come to clear up the gray areas surrounding France-Africa relations. Because, he says, “the unsaid and the ambiguities of these relations have contributed to fueling the feeling of mistrust among African youth”. “We suggest the organization in the ECOWAS countries of youth symposia where current problems will be discussed without taboo and the conclusions will be brought by the Heads of State at the level of the sub-regional institution”, he said. he adds.

between the lines : Furthermore, the MPL calls for collective and responsible action by all to put an end to the spiral of coup d’état and that ECOWAS becomes an agent of positive change in the sub-region that can induce the creation of a future where African youth can thrive in an environment of peace and prosperity.
