Mexico spends 2.6% of its GDP on health; On the other hand, in Nordic countries such as Denmark the figure is higher than 11%.
Some diseases that rats can transmit to humans are HPS, leptospirosis, lymphocytic choriomeningitis, plague, and typhus.
At the end of 2022, the Institute reported a surplus of close to 2.8 billion pesos and assured that it had secure finances until 2037.

Cleanliness is a basic part of any health center because it is a feature that all doctors must have to project safety to patients. At the same time, hygiene must prevail in hospitals both for the good of patients and of the workers themselves. The problem is that it became known that there is a hospital of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) that has a plague of rats.

It is constantly mentioned that public health is in poor condition due to lack of investment. For decades it was a sector that remained forgotten and for which there was not enough attention.

It was not until the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic that the importance of the health field became evident. But even despite the current moment, the panorama does not look different from that of the past. It is only necessary to point out that Mexico allocates 2.6% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to health; On the other hand, in Nordic countries such as Denmark the figure is higher than 11%.

With this in mind, a serious problem that has intensified in recent times is the shortage of medicines. Even since 2021 there have been demonstrations for the constant lack of pediatric cancer drugs.

IMSS hospital has a plague of rats

Added to all of the above now there is a new problem. According to what was published by the newspaper reformthe High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) No. 21 of the IMSS in Monterrey has a plague of rats.

Through photographs that have been disseminated on social networks, it is shown that there are rodents throughout the hospital. Even the workers affirm that they are in the Emergency and Laboratory areas where the utmost hygiene care should prevail.

Now, based on what has been published, this problem is not new but has persisted for years. Although beyond its origin, the biggest annoyance is that no one has been able to offer a real solution.

Furthermore, according to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), some of the diseases that rats can transmit to humans are HPS, leptospirosis, lymphocytic choriomeningitis, plague, and typhus.

The IMSS presumes to have “healthy finances”

On the other hand, the plague of rats inside the IMSS hospital contrasts with the current financial situation that the authorities presume. According to the director of Finance, Marco Aurelio Ramírez Corzo, until the end of 2022, a surplus close to 2 thousand 800 million pesos was reported.

With this in mind, he assured that the Institute had secure finances until 2037. In addition, the director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, mentioned that thanks to these new build two new hospitals in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Comitán, both in Chiapas.
