Major accidents and crimes

August 25, 2023

We reported today: A shooter in a California bar was trying to kill his wife, who wanted to separate from him, before he targeted customers, killing three of them and wounding six others on Wednesday evening, according to police.
Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes said in a press conference Thursday that John Snowling, 59, was a former policeman and was in the process of divorcing his wife, Mary.
The shooting took place at Cox’s Corner, a biker bar about 70 km southeast of Los Angeles.
Barnes explained that when Snowling entered the bar, he “went straight towards her (his wife),” noting that “they did not have any discussion, dialogue, or quarrel, but he immediately shot her.”
His wife survived and is currently being treated in hospital.
The man then shot a woman who was having dinner with Mary and also killed two other men. In addition to the dead, six other people were wounded, two of them in critical condition. Barnes said Snowling was shot and killed during a confrontation with law enforcement in a parking lot behind the bar.
The former Ventura County cop, north of Los Angeles, retired in 2014 after nearly thirty years of service. His wife filed for divorce in December, according to the authorities.
The wife’s father, William Mosby, told the Orange County Register, “He was a crazy husband, and he couldn’t handle the divorce.”
The United States suffers from the problem of the spread of firearms on its soil and the easy access of American citizens to them.
There are more individual weapons in the country than the number of citizens, one in three adults owns a firearm and nearly 50 percent of adults live in a household with a gun.
At least 12,346 people have died as a result of gun violence this year in the United States, according to the non-governmental group Gun Violence Archive.
This number does not include the dead who committed suicide, and their number is not less than 15,576.
The year 2023 witnessed, according to the group, no less than 465 mass shootings, in which there were deaths and injuries.
