On August 25, the Danish government said it would submit to the Danish parliament a bill that would make it illegal to burn copies of the Koran in public.

This is part of an effort by the Nordic country to placate a wave of harsh criticism from the Muslim community after repeated burning or insults. Koran in the capital of Denmark in recent times.

Speaking at a press conference, Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said: “The government will propose (to Parliament) a bill to ban inappropriate acts targeting items of religious significance. for the community religion.”

Minister Hummelgaard gave an example, burning copies of the Koran in public will result in a fine or imprisonment of up to two years. However, he did not specify when the Danish Parliament would vote on the bill.

The new bill will include the content of chapter 12 of the Criminal Code of Denmark related to national security.

In July, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said the Danish government would try to “find a legal tool” that would allow authorities to stop the burning of the Koran in front of foreign embassies in Denmark. Circuit.

Meanwhile, Sweden said it was also studying ways to impose legal limits on acts of blasphemy of the Koran.

In recent weeks, in the capitals of Denmark as well as Sweden, there have been incidents of burning or insulting of the Koran, prompting a wave of fierce criticism from the Muslim community around the world.

Muslim countries have demanded that the two Nordic countries take measures to prevent such extremist acts.
