Burkina: African karate championship bronze medalist Djamila Zamtako welcomed as a hero in Kaya

Kaya, August 23, 2023 (AIB) – Burkinabe karateka Djamila Zamtako, returning from the African Karate Championship in Casablanca (Morocco) with the bronze medal, was welcomed as a hero on Wednesday by fans in his hometown Zamtako (100km north of Ouagadougou), noted an AIB journalist.

The Regional Union of Supporters of the Center-North Stallions has sounded the mobilization of the fans for the reception of their champion Djamila Zamtako this Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 2 p.m. at the southern exit of the city of Kaya.

It was at 3 p.m. that the vehicle carrying the bronze medalist of the African Karate Championship stopped in front of a jubilant crowd.

From the top of the convertible car, Djamila Zamtako, medal hanging from his neck, waved his trophy in greeting and gratitude to the crowd. She is accompanied by master Taryam Ouédraogo, president and trainer of the Taryam de Kaya club and two other athletes from the said club, Uriel Telba and Sosthène Zabré.

Between hugs, greetings and ovations, the delegation under escort of motorcyclists and motorists, was led to the place of the governorate.

There, the bronze medalist and her coach received congratulations and encouragement from Colonel Major Blaise Ouédraogo, Governor of Centre-Nord. The regional authority had by its side Madou Coulibaly and Yacouba Ouédraogo, respectively regional and provincial directors in charge of sports and leisure.

With roars and horns of joy, the procession then moved towards the palace of His Majesty the Naaba Koom, chief of the canton of Sanmatenga where Zamtako Djamilatou received blessings from notables.

The parade through the arteries of the city of leather and skewers at the “coura coura” ended at the family home of the bronze medalist, located in sector No. 2 of Kaya. Relatives and friends were impatient to see Djamila become a national glory.

Djamila’s father, Moussa Zamtako, president of the regional chamber of commerce, 1st vice-president of the special regional delegation of the Centre-North and his wife prepared a serenade in honor of their daughter with a host of artists.

Djamila Zamtako of Taryam Club along with 22 other Burkinabè karateka were competing at the African Karate Championship held in Casablanca, Morocco, August 17-20.
