We announced it a few days ago, it’s now official. President Emmanuel Macron will meet the leaders of the political parties represented in Parliament on Wednesday August 30. In a letter of invitation sent to them and made public this Saturday, in particular by BFM TVthe Head of State clarified his major and unprecedented political initiative.
The discussions will take place “in camera” during an “afternoon of joint work” and a dinner. They will focus first on “the international situation and its consequences for France”, then on “two major major themes for the nation”: “the effectiveness of public action” including new avenues for decentralization and reforms institutions and “the cohesion of the Nation”, according to this letter sent to the party leaders, as well as to the presidents of the Senate and the National Assembly.
After wanting to dismiss the National Rally (RN) and France insoumise (LFI), the Elysée changed its mind and finally invited these two formations. “You share strong agreements and real disagreements between yourselves. But when the best interests of the country are at stake, I have confidence, like many French people, in our ability to converge without denial or renunciation, ”writes Emmanuel Macron.
Referendums “if necessary”
“The ambition will be to agree on courses of action that can find concrete and rapid translations in the achievements of the government and the legislative texts built together”, he adds. The Head of State confirms in this missive that he is prepared to have recourse to the referendum route if necessary: “The people, through the voice of their representatives and, if necessary, by referendum, will have the last word. »
Emmanuel Macron also mentions the recent urban riots which “revealed in part of our youth a loss of sense of authority and civility, a form of decivilization”. “Faced with this, too often, the public authorities work side by side rather than with the same momentum,” he laments.
He also calls on participants to submit written contributions or suggest other topics. “This moment of unity and efficiency must bring us together”, wishes Emmanuel Macron, who calls for “recovering efficiency and clarity to act together, rediscovering unity and fraternity to keep us together” . The letter does not specify the place of the exchanges, which must begin at 3 p.m., but it should be communicated “quickly”.
