The National Council for the Salvation of the Motherland (NCSR), formed by the rebels of Niger, headed by General Abdurahman Tchiani, believes that it has the right to demand that the French Ambassador to Niamey, Sylvain Itte, leave the country within 48 hours, Day.Az reports citing TASS.

“The Vienna agreement clearly defines our sovereign right to oblige the French ambassador to leave the country,” Al Jazeera TV channel quoted the NSSR as saying.

On Friday, it became known that the leaders of the Niger rebels demanded that the French Ambassador to Niamey, Sylvain Itte, leave the country within 48 hours. According to the Al Hadath TV channel, the ambassador did not respond to a call to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is under the control of the rebels, and refused to meet with their representatives.

In response, the French Foreign Ministry said that the rebels have no right to demand that the French ambassador leave Niger, since “the agrément is issued to the ambassador exclusively by the legitimate authorities of Niger.”
