Political Commentator Amit Segal Discusses Decision to Work as Right-Wing Journalist on Channel 12

In a recent interview on Erez Tal’s new talk show on Channel 12, political commentator Amit Segal opened up about his decision to work as a right-wing journalist specifically on Channel 12 and his criticism of the channel most associated with the right, Channel 14.

Segal believes that his presence as a right-wing journalist on Channel 12 holds great significance for the country. He stated, “Israel is in great danger, I think that my presence has a meaning that goes beyond the representation of the right, I am talking about the possibility that people from different positions can gather in front of the same screen.”

Acknowledging the deep political and media polarization in America, Segal highlighted the importance of having both right-wing and left-wing commentators and media platforms. He mentioned, “They have right-wing commentators and left-wing commentators, they have different supermarkets. They will never meet again.”

Segal expressed his concerns about the potential consequences of separating into two distinct channels, newspapers, and websites for the right and the left. He emphasized that it would shift the focus from arguing about reality to arguing about what reality is. He criticized Channel 14 for cultivating a perception that promotes hatred towards those with differing views. He specifically stated, “I have a lot of difficulties with Channel 14’s perception that says what ‘whatever you hate do to your friends’.”

Furthermore, Segal criticized Channel 14’s approach to bringing a “right-wing” balance to the screen. He cited an example, saying, “An entire broadcast schedule on the IDF airwaves of 30 years with Bardogo is balanced.”

This interview sheds light on the growing divide between media outlets and political ideologies in Israel. Segal’s argument for a platform that allows individuals from all positions to come together and engage in meaningful discussions highlights the importance of fostering a more inclusive and diverse media landscape.
