Berlin Shortly before the cabinet meeting at Schloss Meseberg, the debate about a state-subsidized industrial electricity price intensified. Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) sharply criticized Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP).

“The fact that Christian Lindner is making billions available to American and Asian semiconductor companies, but has regulatory concerns in the energy-intensive industry, is obviously contradictory,” Weil told the Handelsblatt. “He should end his regulatory crusade.”

The two chip companies Intel and TSMC alone would be supported from the federal climate and transformation fund (KTF) with a two-digit billion amount. “We will certainly be able to mobilize some money for German industry from the fund,” said Weil.

The exam in Meseberg takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday. The coalition is expected to launch a growth package – including tax relief for companies.
