Météo-France has placed the Alpes-Maritimes and the two departments of Corsica on orange vigilance for thunderstorms from Sunday evening and for the day of Monday. Thunderstorms, “associated with the digging of a depression named Réa”will appear from Sunday evening until Monday in the Alpes-Maritimes and Corsica.

“They will be able to give very high rainfall intensities and very strong gusts of wind, greater than 100 km / h”writes Météo-France in a vigilance bulletin issued on Sunday morning and confirmed in the afternoon.

As a result, the departments of Alpes-Maritimes, Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud are placed on orange vigilance for storms, from Sunday 8 p.m. to Monday 4 p.m. “The most violent storms could occur at sea”warns Météo-France.

Nine other departments of the south-eastern quarter (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Drôme, Isère, Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Var, Vaucluse) were placed for the day of Sunday in vigilance yellow for rain-floods, floods or thunderstorms.

The holding of certain events in the region has been cancelled, shortened or modified due to these bad weather conditions. The back-to-school meeting of Eric Ciotti, president of the Republicans, scheduled for Sunday in an open-air field in the Alpes-Maritimes finally had to be held in a room in Le Cannet, in the same department.

In Marseille, the Delta Festival, which offers concerts on the large beaches of the Prado, had brought forward its closing time on Saturday evening. In August 2022, after violent storms in Corsica which left five dead, Météo-France was criticized for not having triggered the orange alert early enough.
